The Litchfield Hills in the northwest corner of Connecticut may be the most aesthetically perfect hills in the nation! By the time they reach Massachusetts to the north, they are mountainous. On this, generations of artists counted.

The quality of art done in the Litchfield Hills was very high, ranking with the best that was painted in America. For that fact alone it justifies examination. But, more important, the history of these artists, too long overlooked, deserve to be an integral part of the history of American art.
