By:
Raechel Guest

Development of the Hillside historic district began in the middle of the nineteenth century, well-planned streets for graceful and elegant homes. Subdivisions Began in the 1870’s, and residents soon included physicians, dentists, merchants and artists. New generations of businessmen and their families hired architects to design new homes into the 1920’s.

The houses in this booklet are just a sampling of the many fine homes found in the Hillside neighborhoods. In addition, the Hillside boasts elegant apartment buildings, churches, and Hayden Park, designed by the Olmsted Brothers firm.
