From Colonial Village to Country Retreat -
Middlebury CT
Thursday, February 8 – Sunday, April 1, 2007

Over the last year hundreds of Middlebury structures have been photographed, researched and documented by architectural historian Rachel Carley. The museum has received two grants from the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation to create an inventory of the town’s architectural structures, including significant roads, out buildings, rustic stonewalls and bridges. This exhibit chronicles this exciting project.
Ms. Carley, who has family roots in Middlebury, is noted for her deep knowledge of architectural history from the Spanish colonial buildings in Cuba to the rustic and uniquely American Adirondack movement. The Middlebury Historical Society is co-sponsoring the project; Ms. Lee Ostar has spent many hours documenting the land records for the properties and we are most grateful for her help.
