They Found Their Way: Generations of Jewish Life in Waterbury, CT

This exhibit is based on family memories and personal scrapbooks, gathered by the members
of the Jewish Oral History Project, a community-led activity hosted by the Mattatuck Museum.
These stories are presented by the hundreds of area people who shared their stories,
the Steering Committee of the Jewish Oral History Project
and the financial sponsors who have supported the project over the last three years.
In addition to this exhibit, the project has created an archive of audio-taped oral histories
and thousands of photographed images and documents
that will be a rich source for future programs and projects.

We are grateful to everyone who shared their stories,
and we remember those participants who have since passed on.

This project was conceived by Beth El Synagogue and led by the members of the Jewish History Project Committee, who have guided the work for two years. They identified participants, collected objects for the exhibit, and planned the public programs held in conjunction with this exhibit. They read many of the transcripts and advised the project staff throughout the process of this project. We are deeply grateful to Audrey Walzer for her leadership and to the members of the committee for their commitment to the project.
