Colebrook Colebrook was a quiet retreat that hosted artists in two congenial homes, arriving in town by way of the Naugatuck railroad, which was opened to Winsted in 1849. The Emerson family invited artists to paint from their home on the south corner of the Green, with Charles Warren Eaton painting here from 1915, on and off to 1931. Nearby in Sandy Brook, a retired musician and music publisher built cabins on the property of the Brown farm to be used by artists during the summer, which attracted a number of well-known illustrators from New Jersey.
