Morris In the 1870s, genre painting in northwest Connecticut
captured quiet moments in garden settings devoid of symbolism. William
Henry Lippincott (1849-1920) exhibited five watercolors that he completed
in Morris in the summer of 1885 that depict young women, sometimes with
children, flowers, or dogs, at ease in a summer garden.
