Torrington Paolo Abbate, an Italian sculptor who had worked
in the area beginning in 1910, moved to Torrington in 1928 and established
Sul Monte Art Association, which sponsored exhibitions of the work of
area artists for a short time. His studio became a gathering place for
artists and art enthusiasts.
