Twin Lakes

Artists began arriving at the Twin Lakes in the 1840s, when the railroad connections to New York City were completed to serve the area’s iron industry. Artists were attracted to the landscape scenery here: the hills, waters and bucolic countryside were popular with those who believed these features revealed America as a land of special destiny, the new Eden.
