The Rhythm of the Salsa Beat to Rock First Thursday at the March 19, 2008 Waterbury, CT …Alisa Bowens, the Queen of Salsa, will perform and teach salsa dancing at the Mattatuck Museum’s First Thursday on April 3, 2008 from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Known for her warm personality, entertaining Broadway-style of dance, and patient teaching style, Alisa promises to get people up on their feet, moving to the music’s beat, and releasing any pent up stress. A legend in the world of dance, Alisa Bowens is an artistic director, choreographer, performer, instructor, and founder of Alisa’s House of Salsa, with three locations throughout the state. She has been included in the Guinness Book of World Records for teaching the “World’s Largest Salsa Lesson” with over 2,800 participants. Her dance career began when she decided to take Latin Salsa dance lessons as a stress-reliever. She instantly became addicted to the music, movement, and spirit of salsa dancing. Alisa is making history with her award winning performances. She has opened for Grammy-Award winner Rueben Blades, was lead back-up dancer for M&M recording artist, Hector Bonet, and is currently touring with the group Morning, Noon, and Night, featuring A.W. Nardi of West Palm Beach. Alisa has opened for Jose Alberto “El Canario” and has been on the show bill with Huey Dunbar, Brenda K. Starr, Tito Nieves, Tiempo Libre, Eddie Palmieri, and India in the Salsapalooza Tour. Ms. Bowens has appeared at the Shubert Theater, Mohegan Sun Casino, the Palace Theater, and many other dance clubs in the area. When it comes to the Latin beat, Alisa is the queen. Alisa will be at the museum’s April First Thursday entertaining and sharing her passion for Salsa dance. First Thursday is a fun, after-hours event that is a great way to meet up with friends, network with business associates, and enjoy live music. April’s First Thursday will be held in the first floor of the Mattatuck Museum on April 3, 2008 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for museum members and $15 for non-members. The Mattatuck Museum Arts and History Center, located at 144 West Main Street, Waterbury, is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. Convenient, free parking is located directly behind the museum on Park Place.
